What I Kept Noticing

I’ve worked on web-based systems for businesses in the GTA for over 15 years. Over time, I started noticing the same problems across contractor websites.

Common issues include:

  • Unmanaged WordPress sites that develop version-related conflicts that show as warnings in the browser where visitors can see them
  • "Not Secure" browser warnings from expired SSL certificates
  • Broken layouts and content shifting
  • Slow mobile load times
  • Navigation that doesn’t work properly between desktop and mobile
  • Missing or broken click-to-call buttons
  • Outdated or incomplete Google Business Profiles

These issues build up slowly and often go unnoticed and cause credibility issues that can impact your business.

Why This Happens

Many contractor websites are built on templated CMS platforms like WordPress. Over time, plugin version updates can conflict with the core WordPress software, which needs to be regularly updated for security-related reasons and can break the site or cause security warnings to appear.

Missing email-related DNS records can cause credibility issues with your domain, which can affect form deliverability. SSL certificates can expire and cause "Not Secure" warnings in the browser. Mobile navigation issues can be caused by design choices that aren’t tested across devices, or for many other reasons.
